Getting a foundation in anything you want to be good at is important. Whether you want to become an Olympic gold medallist, or you want to excel in your university or you want to be the best at what you do in life, you have to learn to start from the beginning. No one can excel in any area of life, unless they start from the basics and understand what they are doing.

The same goes for ITIL or the IT infrastructure library. If you want to become good and train in the ITIL, then you need to know where to begin, and what needs to be done to reach the highest level of ITIL certification. For this you first need to lay the foundation, in other words obtain the ITIL Service Management Foundation Certification.

You have to complete the foundation certification, before being able to study and take the exams for the next two levels. Whether you choose to take your exam with EXIN or ISEB; both are accredited companies that organize the exams, and assist in the preparation of these exams, it is a requirement to complete the foundation certification first. The only difference between the two companies is that, if you choose to take your exam with EXIN you might need to study a little more.

The exam is likely to be an hour long, and will consist of multiple choice questions. There are a total of forty questions in the exam, and you will need a minimum or twenty six correct answers to pass. Depending on how much you have studied, and understood, it is possible to finish your exam in thirty minutes and get a good result. However, it is advised that you do not rush through your exam, as some of the questions might be tricky and you do not want to get a simple question wrong.

You will probably need to cover between twelve to thirteen modules to prepare for the foundation certification, depending on which company you choose to take your exam with. The modules are divided into two parts: service support and service delivery.

So if you are ready to become ITIL certified, and then hop online, order your material and register for your exam today. It might seem easy, but do not forget to study and practice hard and to read each question carefully before answering.
